When I was 12 years old, I moved around a lot. But now that I’m 17, I’ve finally found a stable home at Cherokee Estate. I thought it would be like the movie “Annie,” but it’s actually nothing like that. The staff here is really nice and supportive of my goals, especially our newest house parent Miss Angelica. It’s not at all like what people say about group homes.
Making friends has always been tough for me because I’ve had to switch schools and live with different family members a lot. But now, I’m getting better at connecting with people, including old friends from elementary school. I will be forever grateful that Cherokee Estate offered me an opportunity to thrive.
I just want to give a big shoutout to all of you awesome people who have supported Cherokee Estate! Without your help, the kids living here wouldn’t get to have the childhood experiences they deserve. We get to go to the movies, go shopping, and have the best Christmas ever! And a special thank you to Ms. Shatima for always being there for me when I needed a shoulder to cry on. Thanks to all of these amazing people, I’ve been able to discover my true potential.
I’m super excited to be graduating from Phoenix High School a whole year early! I’m thinking about taking a break before continuing my education. I’m really interested in going to Georgia Northwestern Technical College to study early childhood education. And on top of that, I’ve got big dreams of writing poetry, and even a novel in my free time. I can’t wait to see where the future takes me!
