Shylah Nelson

My name is Shylah, and I have been at the Boys Ranch since December of 2021, when I was 16 years old.

Being at the Ranch has helped me in many ways, and one very important way is my schooling. Being here allowed me to stay at the school I had previously attended and graduate with the peers I’d been in school with since we were in sixth grade. I even graduated with honors and 29 college credits under my belt.

My time at the Ranch hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows, but I knew it was going to be alright because even when times were tough, there were people I could trust and turn to for guidance. Being surrounded by so many people who genuinely care about me and my future is truly amazing, and I am eternally grateful for everything the Ranch has done for me in my journey.

When I leave the Ranch, I will be attending a university in North Carolina. I will be continuing my studies in psychology. My intended major upon arriving is Forensic Psychology, while my intended minor is Criminal Justice. I hope to be able to go into the field of Forensic Psychology when I graduate. I am also aiming to get my doctorate, furthering my educational journey to be the best that I can be.

I want to thank everyone who has been at my side for their love and support through the good times and the trying times.
